Smithsonian Student Travel | Local Experts
Local experts join every program at various points throughout the itinerary. Experts are professionals in their field and are able to tie in their knowledge and experiences with the themes of the program. They are welcoming, engaging, and accessible, and provide students with unique insights in a way that only the Smithsonian is able to offer. Depending on the day, experts may give a talk about their work and then join the group for a hike, or spend the entire day alongside students leading activities related to their professional endeavors.
Our local experts work in Smithsonian museums, conduct experiments, collect data, define the cutting edge of space exploration, and organize community gardens. They are curators, educators, researchers, astronauts, conservationists, sociologists, advocates, and historians.
